Deliverable D9.3: Evaluation of Trial 1 and specification for component revision

Abstract

This deliverables presents the results from testing individual insular software components in Trial 1 of the SPIKE system following the strategy and set-up defined in [D9.1] and [D9.2]. Trial 1 has been organized in three independent application cases, each focusing on different aspects of the SPIKE components and operated by one of the SPIKE user partners.

As a result of Trial 1 specifications of software components as well as semantic ontologies and process models have been modified and complemented. Finally, some changes to the trial evaluation procedure which are required by the changed testing environment and the chosen SPIKE approach are documented. 

This deliverable states the results of the evaluation of the first Trial in the SPIKE project. Task T9.2 “Trial 1 (all components) and upcoming evaluation” was conducted after first versions of all major software components of the overall SPIKE system have been implemented as initial versions. This deliverable marks its completion.

SPIKE follows an iterative cyclic software development model wherein the scheduled trials serve mainly two purposes:

(1)   Synchronize software development, i.e. establish points in time at which snap-shots of the current software components are challenged by SPIKE user partners to guarantee project progress and fulfillment of the defined requirements

(2)   Collect feedback from potential future users and vendors of SPIKE to update and refine user requirements and software components’ specification.

During Trial 1 the SPIKE user partners run parts of their defined pilot applications on the insular technological building blocks and recorded all their feedback, ideas for improvement and further potential requirements. These findings have then been picked up by the system architects and software developers to update and refine the blue prints of the SPIKE system to guarantee continuing development of adequate and applicable software components for the final SPIKE system.
