Deliverable D6.3: D6.3 Alliance and in-house resource ontologies

Abstract:

This deliverable provides a description of the resource ontologies and abstract business process models as they were developed for all SPIKE pilot applications in the scope of their first trials. The ontologies were designed in three logical groups - project-related, system-related and domain ontologies. The process-related ontologies provide conceptual models for semantic description of business processes and their elements, the system-related ontologies semantically describe the SPIKE platform environment. The domain ontologies contain conceptual specifications for particular pilot applications. The workflow and abstract process view of pilot applications is represented by respective business process models. WSMO Studio toolkit was employed for implementing both the process models and ontologies. The design principles and particular implementations are described in the deliverable; the respective WSML source codes are attached in separate files.

Executive Summary

This deliverable describes the resource ontologies and abstract business process models as they were developed for all SPIKE pilot applications in the scope of their first trials [D9.2]. General purpose of this deliverable is to provide the data that will enable to run the trials. It namely includes:<//font>

- Specification of the semantic content, the SPIKE resource ontologies (methodology was specified in [D6.1])
- Re-use of existing ontology resources (list of candidates was provided in [D6.1])
-Implementation of the resulting ontology structure (WSML format [WSML] and WSMO Studio tool [WSMOStudio] was proposed in [D6.2])
- Development of abstract business process models for all the application cases (toolkit was specified in [D6.2])

The resource ontology structure was proposed in three logical groups, namely the process-related, system-related, and domain ontologies. The content of ontologies belonging to the first two groups was designed with respect to adopted WSMO conceptual framework and available external ontology resources. The textual description of SPIKE application cases, which was provided in previous deliverables, was analysed and systematically processed to obtain a structure of key terms that were then implemented as concepts of domain ontologies. Similarly, the abstract business process models were designed according to the previously provided initial process descriptions of the application cases.

Both the resource ontologies and the business process models were implemented by means of the WSMO Studio toolkit. The implementations of all the semantic structures are described in this deliverable and the respective WSML source codes are attached.
