Abstract
This deliverable illustrates the updates to components of Service Bus sub-system which have been introduced during the second round in the iterative development cycle as a result of the finding of Trial 1. The modifications of the components were implemented within task T5.3 Implementation of additional requirements for the Service Bus resulting from Trial 1 evaluation feedback. Besides some minor enhancements and updates to single components of the overall architecture and a few preliminary integration tasks, all development efforts focused on extending and completing planned functionalities of single components.
Executive Summary
This deliverable is one of several D4.x, D5.x and D7.x deliverables which all illustrate snapshots of the software implementation efforts taken within the SPIKE project. In particular, this deliverable is the last report in the series of D5.2 documents, which exclusively focuses on implementation efforts of single, not yet integrated software components of the SPIKE Service bus. Consequently the herein documented software components form the input for the now starting system integration phase.
The current releases of the single software components as illustrated in this deliverables are a result of SPIKE Trial 1 during which previous releases have been tested by the SPIKE user partners within their use cases. These results have been documented within the previous SPIKE deliverable “D9.3 Evaluation of Trial 1 and Specification for Component Revision” [D9.3].
This document tries to give a short and high-level overview of the major changes in the single software components of the SPIKE Service Bus sub-system. It serves as a written report, mainly accompanying the second snapshots of implementations of single software components.
Software development per se, especially in the meaning of implementing pre-defined user requirements into a running software system following a systematic software development cycle, is not a research-oriented task. Indeed, the SPIKE consortium started by surveying user requirements. However, the SPIKE software development cycle does not merely focus on developing mature commercial software. Rather the project focuses on testing and prototyping new and innovative approaches to solve problems described by the SPIKE user partners.
During the second development phase, research in the field of the SPIKE Service Bus was mainly targeted at the issue of semantics-supported dynamic service selection in SOAs. The main research contributions of this deliverable are therefore as follows:
- Initial prototypical implementation of semantically enhanced dynamic service selections
- Initial prototypical implementation of semantic message transformation and mediation
- Implementation of a semantic service registry together with some registered and fully annotated services.
- Evaluation of several ways for message enrichment based on a novel integration approach of partly available, partly new developed software components.
