D4.1 Specification of components for Portal System

Abstract

This report identifies and evaluates fundamental technical building blocks to be used for the

development of the SPIKE portal components. Furthermore, for each area of usage portal

server, GUI-, workflow-related- as well as reporting component a decision of

the most suitable toolset for further development of the SPIKE portal system is made.

Secondly, this document provides a detailed view at the portal-related modules initially

presented in the functional description of the SPIKE system components as well as a definition

of the testing approach followed by the SPIKE project team with regard to the portal system.

Executive Summary

Executive Summary

This report is the last step in the architecture design and specification phase of the portal

components of the SPIKE project. Strongly related with the specification of the service bus

components (SPIKE Deliverable D5.1) as well as the underlying security architecture (SPIKE

Deliverable [D7.1]), this report finalizes foundations before the actual software development of

the SPIKE project can take place.

As such, the report follows a three-fold approach: First of all, this document deals with the

technical foundations to be used for portal-related development within SPIKE. As such, this

section covers aspects beginning from the underlying portal server up to authentication and

authorisation aspects. Based on this evaluation, software developers gain an overview which

functionality will be provided by third-party software components, and which functionality still

is to be implemented within the SPIKE project.

Next, portal-related modules, which have been initially described in SPIKE deliverable [D3.2],

are revisited and detailed. Going beyond the information provided in [D3.2], this section shows

class diagrams for the individual modules covered in this report. Finally, a sketch of the relation

between the technical building blocks and the SPIKE Portal Instance modules is presented.

The report finally closes with a section dealing with testing of the SPIKE platform from the

of the software testing approach taken by the SPIKE project. This approach consists of unit

testing on the one hand as well as system testing, including load testing of the SPIKE platform,

on the other hand.
