Deliverable D10.6f: Raising early public awareness
Abstract
Every 6 months a description of the dissemination activities of all consortium members has to be delivered. The focus of the first 6 months has been to produce instruments for dissemination: project presentation, website, leaflet, and poster. The public has been addressed additionally by a questionnaire, interviews and articles in newspapers.
In the second half of the year 2008, the partners started with first concrete dissemination activities. In this early phase of the project the main focus was the academic dissemination of SPIKE, e.g. presenting the project in conferences and in magazine form. The main goal within last 6 months was the recognition of SPIKE within the academic community. Moreover, the business partners worked out plans for dissemination and defined responsibilities concerning the further dissemination strategy. The business partners made first steps to identify companies and branches, which are potentially interested in the SPIKE platform.
In the first half of the year 2009, the academic dissemination of SPIKE progressed. The academic partner presented SPIKE in several conferences, workshops and seminars as well as in scientific magazines. Furthermore the partners started to address the business community with first dissemination activities. The most important dissemination activity was the presentation of SPIKE at the CeBIT 2009. A further extensive dissemination action was the implementation of a survey about the potential functionality of the SPIKE platform. A network of eight IT-logistic companies was built in order to describe scenarios in the logistic business which shall be managed by the SPIKE system in the future.
The main focus concerning dissemination in the second half of the year 2009 was to arouse the public interest in the first concrete project results. For this purpose, SPIKE was presented to business communities, e.g. to the companies located in the Lakeside Park in Klagenfurt, Austria, and to the eight IT-logistic companies of the NIL (network for innovative logistic)-network. The NIL-partners will consider the possibility of using SPIKE for their collaboration. The dissemination activities were extended to the virtual world (XING, the open source community and an article in Wikipedia).
The dissemination activities, which had been carried out in 2009, have already shown first results. On their basis further activities were initiated in the first half of 2010. First of all, SPIKE received the attention of business and scientific communities. For example, the IT-logistic network NIL has started a feasibility study for the usage of SPIKE platform. In the area of science, the SPIKE project gained a new partner: The University of Klagenfurt is going to support SPIKE in the field of dissemination.
In the last phase of the project - which was affected by the completion of the prototype of the integrative SPIKE collaboration platform - the partners also strengthen their dissemination activities. Thus SPIKE was presented at the CeBIT 2010, the digital industry's biggest, most international event. It was another main focus presenting SPIKE as an Open Source Solution. For this purpose the SPIKE collaboration platform was placed at several European conferences. During the whole run time, the SPIKE project achieved about 38 presentations to research community and about 13 to potential users.
Executive Summary
The SPIKE goals are very ambitious concerning the technology to be developed but also with respect to dissemination and transfer to business. Therefore professional marketing is necessary.
The SPIKE partners want to raise early public awareness far before first results of the development can be shown. Dissemination therefore has to concentrate on what is planned for the future.
Right from the start the project was and is accompanied by dissemination activities suited to the respective phase of the project.
The main focus of the first year`s dissemination activities was the propagation within the academic community and within the partner & customer network of the consortium.
This document summarises in a half-yearly cycle the conducted dissemination activities, which are specified in the deliverable D10.3 “Plan for using and disseminating knowledge”.
