Deliverable D10.1b Use Plans final
Abstract
This deliverable represents the first output of task T10.1 of WP 10 – Analysis and exploitation fore-cast. It describes the market of collaboration platforms. Special focus is given on the licensing of the core SPIKE system, i.e. analysis of appropriate open source license types, and the pilot applications. Business plans are described from the Research Partners and User Partners. The first version of the exploitation strategy from all involved partners is given.
Executive Summary
The present report builds upon and extends work that has been made previously for D10.1a and includes a detailed specification of the added value of the SPIKE solution compared to the state-of-the-art in the collaboration field. The SPIKE project team compared commercial products and open source project initiatives from other EU-projects to the expected SPIKE outcomes. This document comprises a detailed analysis of potential corresponding business models from user partners’ and research partners’ perspective. The SPIKE project team also attached great importance on the analysis of appropriate open source license types, compatibility issues and their suitability for the SPIKE results. We discussed it very intensively via the SPIKE mailing-list and during our project meeting in Malaga. As another focus the communication of the SPIKE partners with open source communities and the usage of open standards are described in the updated deliverable.
Right from the start of the SPIKE project exploitation has been started. During the first 18 months, emphasis of the SPIKE project team has been given on collecting individual use plans and during the final month of the project the SPIKE project team synthesised these individual use plans into a common exploitation agreement. Several documents strongly influenced the current document.
As stated in the DOW, the purpose of the deliverable D10.1a and the revised version D10.1a 1.1 Use Plan is to analyse and forecast the utilisation and exploitation of SPIKE. D10.1b comprises the efforts of the SPIKE project team to find out the needs of the SME’s and to increase the level of awareness of the SPIKE platform. Therefore, a second questionnaire has been developed and an open source community has been founded.
In summary the following points have been a strong influence for the current document:
- Inputs to exploitation: SPIKE components and architecture [D2.1] [D2.2] [D3.1] [D3.2] [D4.1], methodological guideline for setting up business alliances [9.1], and lessons learned from the pilot projects. Section 4 of the present document gives a short description of mentioned inputs.
- Business Plan: Several options are under consideration, all of them are based on the free of charge availability of SPIKE’s central modules (open source technical infrastructure). The different business plans and models from research and user partners are described in section 6. The business plans and models have a strong focus on the evaluated pilot projects, which are described in deliverable D9.2.
- Exploitation strategy: The SPIKE team took the lead in exploitation on their home market. The exploitation strategy is a main part of D10.3 Plan for using and disseminating knowledge.
- Pilot applications will be used as references for the exploitation strategy. Additionally to the three defined application cases from the user partners, a fourth application case has been developed as a representative demo-case to show a practical and simply understandable of SPIKE’s potential. This fourth application case is the combination of parts of the first three application cases and is outlined in deliverable D9.2 section 6.
- The results of all exploitation and dissemination activities are described in D10.6 Raising public awareness, which is updated every 6 months and D10.3 Plan for using and disseminating knowledge.
